Bill Kozub, 1930 – 2015

Sadly, one of our longtime curling members, Bill Kozub, passed away on August 4, 2015 at the age of 85. Bill was an active curler to the end of the season this year. He will be missed. His obituary as posted is below (minus the funeral home and funeral arrangements):

KOZUB, Mr. William “Bill” – It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of Bill Kozub at his home from complications brought on by cancer on August 4, 2015 at the age of 85. Bill was born in Gimli, Manitoba on April 27, 1930 to Victor & Martha (Evanchuk) Kozub. He is survived by his loving wife Helen (Abramek) Kozub of 57 years, daughter Catherine Nugent (Timothy), son Christopher Kozub (Lori), grandson Austin Nugent (Yao) and granddaughter Sydney Nugent. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Barbara Abramek and by his niece, Joanne Dyack (Denis) and was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Chester Abramek (2011). Bill began his career at the age of 18 in Niagara designing & building custom homes. In September 1963, Bill & Helen moved to Delhi where he passed on his knowledge & love of construction for 26 years as a teacher at Delhi District Secondary School, Waterford and Valley Heights. Bill was active in his community: early on as a Kinsman; as a Member of the Delhi Golf & Country Club for more than 50 years; as a curler at Delhi and Norwich Curling Clubs for more than 50 years; and with Helen, as a Member of Our Lady, Queen of Martyrs Parish since their arrival in Delhi. Bill & Helen travelled across Canada and through the United States and many parts of Europe. Many thanks to Dr. Nunn and his nurse, Sue; The Outreach Group and Lillian, who was Bill’s Nurse.

Thursday Feb 26 Trivia Night fundraiser for the new condenser!

Passing this along from Megan and Dan:
——
Hi Everyone,
We thought that since the club is losing revenue this week due to the problems with the ice that we should have a fun fundraising night instead of curling. We are planning a trivia fun night for Thursday night. Dan and I attended a similiar night at the Tillsonburg curling club in January and we had a really fun evening.
The cost will be $10 per person. I’ll order pizza, and we’ll have snacks and desserts as we’re playing the trivia.
Depending on numbers, teams can be any size. Maybe sign up with your curling team and we’ll put teams together based on numbers. My plan is to start around 7:15 ( latecomers can be added to the teams) and end around 9:30. Please RSVP so that I know how may pizza’s to order and how many brownies to bake!

Curling Feb. 23 to 27, 2015 cancelled

Just a re-post of an email we got from the Club:

As you may be aware, the Club’s condensor is on its last legs and will be replaced by Oxford Energy Solutions, hopefully this week. In the meantime, our ice maker, Chris Fordham, has been doing his best to “keep the ice” for the balance of the draw.  He has advised the Board that due to the deterioration of the ice, he needs 1 week to flood and repair it. The Board has made the decision to suspend curling this week and extend the curling season by 1 week.  Games scheduled for this week will be played the week of March 29th to April 4th.
On behalf of the Board, apologies for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.
Joanne Ross
